The calibrated Mitutoyo 500-764-10CAL Absolute digital caliper is for measuring inside/outside diameters, depth, and step of items in harsh workshop conditions. This caliper has a measurement range of 0 to 12" (0 to 300mm), resolution of 0.0005" (0.01mm), and an accuracy of + or - 0.0015". The LCD screen displays in inches and metric units. This unit has stainless steel jaws for durability, and a blade depth bar for measuring narrow grooves and recesses. This gauge is Ingress Protection certified IP67 for protection against coolant, water, dust, and oil. Mitutoyo calibrated tools include a Certificate of Calibration that provides evidence that the tool has been calibrated and is within allowable error specifications. Mitutoyo calibrated tools are certified by Mitutoyo's American Association for Laboratory Accreditation-accredited calibration laboratory (A2LA Certificate #750-01) to the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 International Standard for testing and calibration laboratories.

Functions offered by this caliper include origin set, zero set, automatic on and off after 20 minutes of idle time, data output, computing error alert, and low voltage alert. It has a thumb roller and an Absolute electromagnetic induction-type linear encoder for taking accurate measurements. This caliper offers serial data output (using optional SPC cables with a data switch, sold separately), which increases speed and reliability of digital measurement records. It has a battery life of approximately 3 years of normal use. This unit comes with an SR-44 battery and a fitted, plastic case.

Digital calipers are measuring instruments commonly used for inspection in manufacturing to provide the precise measurements of an object. A pair of jaws attached to a long beam with a marked scale is used to take inside, outside, and step measurements. An additional depth probe slides along the beam to take depth measurements. One jaw is fixed to the end of the scale, while the other jaw slides along it with gearless precision to take measurements. The reading is electronically generated and displayed on a digital, high-resolution screen as a single value. Digital calipers can take differential measurements, which are used to determine the difference in measurements between two objects, by zeroing the display at any point along the scale. Some digital calipers can switch between standard and metric units, and some can output readings to a computer or printer for recording measurements. Compared to dial calipers, digital calipers provide measurements that are faster, easier, and more error-free, but they are more fragile mechanically and electronically, and do not resist coolant well. Vernier calipers are more durable than digital calipers because they do not have internal moving parts, but they can be more difficult to read. Digital calipers are commonly used in fields such as metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, carpentry, and medicine.
